Channeled Writing: Panic Attacks

In this post, my intention was not to diminish how painful and scary panic attacks are when they occur, but rather to explain them from a spiritual perspective, and hopefully take the fear out of them. Below are the channeled answers I received.

What are panic attacks? Panic attacks are an indication a person is in the midst of healing the fear, anxiety, shame, guilt, or any other unloving emotion or thought that has been residing within their subconsciousness. As what needs to be healed journeys toward their consciousness, their ego lashes out, trying desperately to plunge these emotions and thoughts back into their subconscious where they will remain unhealed. This war between the ego and higher mind causes the body to react as if it were in the midst of a physical battle. A person having a panic attack is having the same adrenaline surge and fight-or-flight response as a soldier, but, because the hidden pain has not fully risen into their consciousness, they remain unaware of why these panic attacks are occurring.

Why does the ego want us to remain unhealed? The ego knows when a person becomes fully healed, he or she will awakened to their divine self and communicate with the Divine without hindrance. An awakened person will no longer believe the lies of the ego, leaving it voiceless and powerless.

The ego pretends to be God, ruling the minds of those who are still asleep, but when a person is healed and awakens, the ego becomes powerless. To be powerless is the same as death for the ego, which does not understand the power of love. The ego’s fear of death is felt strongly by the person who is in the midst of a panic attack.

What if I let the panic come instead of resisting it? The Divine would never facilitate an increase in fear—only its release. Offer your panic, which is an expression of your fears, to the Divine. Each offering is practice for your full and final release, which ultimately leads to your awakening.

Recently while at the movies, I felt a panic rise up within me during a violent scene. I don’t think that’s an awakening. To not enjoy the destruction of others is an awakening. You felt helpless to protect the movie characters and so your energy swelled, giving rise to the “fight or flight” instinct, causing an adrenaline rush, but beneath this was the root of the issue—the desire to save the characters in the movie as if you were saving yourself. You understood the concept of Oneness even if it was unconscious.

What about the times people wake up in a panic or are overcome while relaxing? People keep themselves preoccupied with thoughts as a means to keep their fears in the subconscious parts of their minds. When they finally relax or sleep, their preexisting fears rise to the surface. This is a time for healing. When a panic attack arises, they would be wise to ask the Divine for healing. Be assured, the Divine will heal it. Until the panic attack passes, they could take a moment to go outside and feel the ground beneath their feet or gaze out a window and view the glorious sky and landscape to remind themselves they are part of everything, and the Divine loves them.

The Smallest Particle

Blood Cells

Image by Andrew Mason via Flickr

One lazy day, when I was 14-years-old, I was lying on the living room floor letting my thoughts wander. For no particular reason, I wondered if there was a limit to how small a particle could be. I envisioned a blood cell, then the particles that made up the cell, then the sub-atomic particles that made up those particles, imagining each particle dividing into a smaller particle. My mind zoomed through each division until suddenly I was in the presence of God!

What an unexpected occurrence! There was no doubt in my mind that the vision was real, yet the reason for the vision was beyond me at the time. So today, many decades later, I asked the Spirit to give me the meaning. Below is the channeled response:

“You do not find yourself out there. You find yourself within. The vision was symbolic. It showed the journey to the inner self, the self that is connected to God…the self that is not fooled by outward forms and dreams of temporary events. You let your mind be open and receptive, if only for a moment, but that was enough..that is all it takes. You do not need a lifetime of trying to find yourself. You are already with God.

The outward form is an illusion created by the mind, a smoke screen blocking your awareness of your true self. When you are ready to let go of this ‘protective’ shield, you will see the world for what it is…nothing. You will be at one with your perfect self, as you were created. You will be awake once again.

Your thoughts continue to block your return. Thoughts shield you from hearing your true self, who is trying to reach out to you…thoughts block help from the Spirit. Sit quietly and let it come. What have you to lose except unhappiness and fear?”

“It is quite possible to reach God. In fact it is very easy, because it is the most natural thing in the world. You might even say it is the ONLY natural thing in the world.” ~ A Course in Miracles

Seven Guides to Happiness and Peace

Every decision based on fear is the wrong decision. Not because of the outcome, but because of its motive.

How do you face situations when the answers seem beyond your understanding or ability? How do you go through life feeling comfortable you are on the right path, even when events don’t seem to be going your way?

Here are seven guides for living a happy and peaceful life:

When fearful, call for love. Call on the Spirit who transforms all that is fearful into love. Offer Him your fear and He will take it from you. You will feel the emotional transformation almost immediately, if you are willing to let it go. For a detailed explanation on how to give fear and other unwanted emotions to the Spirit, please read my blog post Meditation Techniques.

When making decisions, ask for divine guidance. Ask for help throughout the day when making decisions. And, then wait for guidance that may come in the form of a gut feeling, heart’s desire, knowing, or you may actually hear the quiet voice speak to you and offer Its guidance on how to handle the situation. The Spirit will help you respond in a loving way.

When you feel guilty, realize that you are responding from fear. Guilt can be immobilizing, infecting so many others aspects of your life. Guilt stems from the fear that you have created a situation that was harmful to others or yourself. It stems from a belief that this dream is real. Can such a temporary moment be real? Can anything that was not created from love be real? There is a message from the Spirit in my book Shaman Stone Soup that answers this well: “Guilt—the universal punishment. For what? What have you done? Illusions of deeds gone wrong, misspoken words, actions that seemed to kill or harm others, all are dreams of injuries to ourselves and others, and yet they are only dreams. The spirit realm, where all the loved ones wait, is a much more accurate portrayal of yourself. Yet even this is incomplete. You are ultimately only love, extending itself for all of eternity.”

Forgive. Remember that your life is a dream created by you. Don’t spend your time blaming others. And like any dream, it’s not real! Let it go. Remember that you and everyone are perfect spirits who have dreamed of imperfection. You are not your body, your actions, your failures. Remember to laugh at your mistakes—they are just a blip on the radar. Forgive every trespass that comes to your mind. Let them all go.

Remember Your Perfectness. You cannot achieve spiritual purity, you’re already a perfect spirit. All you can do is remove the thoughts that keep you from remembering your perfectness. A message from the Spirit in Shaman Stone Soup states: “We are all divine spirits, helping others on conscious and unconscious levels. The past, present, and future exist simultaneously—all lives, all events have already occurred—leaving you with memories of illusions that you pluck from the recesses of your mind. You have reached enlightenment because you have never left it. So, you have the ability to act as an angel, reaching out to others, offering miracles and love, now.”

Surrender. You are like a wave in the ocean, fearful that the ocean will swallow you, and you will be no more. Yet, you have been alive for eternity and always will be. Release your attachment to the dream you have made, and allow your true self, your eternal spirit, to shine through. Don’t fear being part of the ocean. Accept your role in this greatness, and you will realize how mighty you are, instead of how lonely and separated you feel.

Respond with love. Life is about learning to release and forgive everything that is not love. Every temptation to be anxious, guilty, or depressed is identification with fear—an attempt to make this dream real. Love is the recognition that you are an eternal being that can never be destroyed, attacked, or diminished in any way. When you respond with love, you remember your true self.

Shaman Stone Soup

The Book that will Help You Believe in Miracles!

I wrote Shaman Stone Soup after learning that some people were afraid of shamanism. This was surprising, since I had discovered through my experiences with shamanism that it offered a divine connection with enlightened beings, nature, and the loving Spirit. I have experienced many miracles in my life, and I wanted others to know that miracles occur and to believe that they could receive these wonderous gifts for themselves!

The title Shaman Stone Soup was based on the parable of Stone Soup, which demonstrates that when people give a portion of their abundance to others who lack, we create a pot of delicious “soup” that can be shared by all. A wonderful analogy of miracles!

The book includes a short, introductory memoir of how I was led to the path of miracles and 20 true-life stories based on my personal experiences and as a healer for friends, family, and clients.

In Shaman Stone Soup, I offered a view of the healing process from the “other side” by showing how spirit guides, angels, and enlightened teachers answer our calls for help through miracles.

Inside the book are stories of a ghost who overstayed her welcome, the spirits of ancient wise men who offered advice and a miraculous cure from cancer, a conversation with a hurricane and its unintended impact, the man who got out of his wheelchair to go hunting and fishing, the severing of karmic ties and its healing impact on a young college boy, a vivid dream of a pastor who needed guidance, the transformation of a schizophrenic, loving contact from my mother who died unexpectedly, and more.

Shaman Stone Soup offers a multifaceted view of miracles that is not limited to shamanism, A Course In Miracles, religion, spirituality, or lack of faith, but rather emphasizes that miracles are natural occurrences experienced by everyone.

A Concubine Among Sailors — Channeled Writings

I asked the Spirit to guide this writing and give me a message for whoever needed to hear it most. If it’s for you, be blessed. Although, I suspect that it is also for me.

A jaunt among the world. Today it’s yours to see. It doesn’t take a lot of effort to achieve great things. Only a willingness to fulfill your purpose for God. He doesn’t wait for knowledge or skills. He attributes you with what you need, when you need it. Go forth and sing his praises. Live among the trees and bask in the sun’s glory. Life is to be filled with love.

Yet, you search for achievements. A concubine among sailors… give them what they want… but you will lose your way in the process. Keep true to your path. Others may not appreciate it, but those traveling along the same path will understand and appreciate you beating the overgrowth out of their way. Don’t grow tired. Ask for the energy to go forth and really live. Live like there is no death, no punishment, and no remorse. Only love will be your judgement. Only love is. Only love will make you happy. Give your sorrows to the Spirit. Remember that all negative thoughts are not real and not yours. Let them go this instant and behold the light within you, so that others may feel that light and remember that it lives within them.

Go and remember who you really are. Don’t let judgements of money or beauty be held against you. These are futile dreams hoping to exchange heaven for a few pennies. The shame in living comes from not living at all. The loss of heaven has taken all the joy from your grand adventure and left you with dark clouds that seem to ruin your picnic. The bugs and ants pick at you and the humid air causes you to sweat. Yet, you stand and proclaim this is the best day ever. You don’t know what a grand day is. Does heaven shine before you? Do you see the love in everyone? Until you do, you won’t know true happiness. You won’t feel undying love without end.

Don’t put limits on me. You limit yourself when you do. Your search for nothingness has left you unhappy because you put limits on what your happiness is. Without this or that, you determine that you are unhappy. Happiness just is. Nothing will make you happy. Nothing will bring you gladness. Nothing in this world is real except love.

Changing Perspectives

CougarDuring a shamanic journeying, I was guided by Jesus to a waterfall. He asked me to look at it and give my impression. I looked at the waterfall with its cascading water flowing into a lake surrounded by lush trees, and said it was beautiful.

Suddenly, we were at the top of the waterfall. The sound of the water was deafening as I peered over the edge. Jesus asked me again to give my impression.

I said, “I am afraid of falling and it’s scary.”

Jesus said, “It’s the same waterfall, yet your perspective changed. This applies to everything in life.”

Then, we were in a forest. A fox appeared and came up to Jesus. As Jesus petted him, He said, “You are like this fox…smart, fast and cunning. Yet, the fox hunts at night, too afraid to show himself during the day. You must become more like the bear and cougar, and be able to show your full strength in broad daylight, without fear and being true to yourself.”

Jesus was kind enough to help me see that my perspectives are based on whether something seems ‘good’ or ‘bad.’ Judgements that I am not qualified to make. I must rely on the Spirit for its judgement, and be willing to take action as I am inspired to do.

Transformation takes time and involves many life lessons—not necessarily easy lessons. But no one said it was going to easy.

Freedom of the Mind

When we use the spiritual to accommodate the physical, we have lost our correct perspective. The physical should be the tool for finding our spiritual selves.

Freedom is often a goal we want. We desire freedom from financial concerns and pain, such as anger, anxiety, depression, etc. We believe that once the body’s concerns are taken care of, we will feel free. But those who have achieved fame, fortune and health, realized that this is not true. It’s in the mind where happiness, joy, love and true freedom is found. The mind is not your brain, but rather a spiritual conciousness which is the gateway to your true self.

Finding freedom for the mind will eventually lead you on a spiritual journey towards love and a strong connection between the Creator and all of humanity — and away from fear, pain and loneliness.

Freedom is achieved by:

  • Connecting to our Creator, through methods such as prayer, meditation, shamanic journeying, yoga, etc.
  • Forgiving others and ourselves
  • Understanding that this life is a temporary awareness and a complete distortion of our true spiritual selves
  • Learning that we are loved completely by our Creator and are able to share that love
  • Knowing that we have the power of our Creator, since we are created in his image. We are not weak and held hostage by this world.
  • Learning to follow the Spirit’s guidance on a daily basis. We can begin to make the correct decisions for our lives when we follow the Spirit’s lead, instead of following our own perspective which is often incorrect and limited.

Freedom is found by following the Spirit’s guidance, but we often believe this means we will lose our worldly possessions. The Spirit is not concerned about taking away something from you — whether you are rich or poor is not important. The Spirit only uses physical means as a tool to help you find freedom.

We are eternal spirits, so our concerns about this temporary physical realm are misguided. The Spirit will make sure that you have what you need. It only asks that you allow It to lead the way. When you no longer worry about having your needs met, you can be free at last!

Three Life-changing Meditation Techniques

Below are three meditation techniques I frequently recommend to people. These meditations are useful for strengthening your connection to the Divine Energy (this has many names: Holy Spirit, Great Spirit, God, Allah, Goddess, etc.), removing unwanted thoughts, and releasing fears, stress, anxiety, depression and many other unloving emotions.

1. Connecting to the Divine Energy Meditation

To begin, sit quietly and let your mind go blank.

Breathe deeply while envisioning the Divine Energy entering your crown chakra (top of your head), letting your breath carry the Divine Energy through your body all the way to your feet.

Next, release your breath, envisioning the energy circling up around your body until it rises out of the top of your head. Repeat this process as many times as you feel it’s needed. I recommend 15 minutes or more daily, but even a few minutes can be beneficial.

The results will differ from person to person, and even from session to session. You may experience bliss, or at the very least, your mind will be calm and you’ll forget about life’s stresses for a little while.

My ultimate goal when doing this meditation is to connect to the Divine Energy because of its healing powers. It is possible to connect to the Divine Energy the first time you try this meditation, but it usually takes days or months, so don’t give up too soon. Each time you try, you are making progress, and eventually you’ll feel the Divine Energy.

2. Releasing Day-to-Day Negative Emotions Meditation

The first time I tried this technique was after my family moved to North Carolina. My husband and I were both looking for jobs, but it was just before the holidays and during the 2008 recession, so we weren’t getting any interviews. We had a limited income and were dipping into our savings. The stress had become overwhelming and I was about to have my first anxiety attack. I stood up from my computer and raced to the stairs. Before stepping down, I decided to give this burden to Holy Spirit by saying, “I give this to you. Please take it and heal it. Thank you.” I felt a warmth enter my body, which caused the fear to leave by the time I reached the bottom of the stairs. I went outside and looked at the clouds floating by, grateful to look at them without fear or panic. It was a huge relief to have the anxiety leave so quickly without escalating into a full-blown panic attack.

One nice aspect about this technique is that can be used anywhere, in the car, in the store, in a meeting, etc. without anyone knowing that you are doing it. It can also be used to give away any of your other unwanted emotions/thoughts, even the smaller ones, such as irritation and impatience.

3. Releasing the Past Meditation

This meditation has been life-changing for me. The goal of this practice is to release the trauma, pain, anger and discomfort from past events, such as being bullied, problems with your parents, unfairly losing your job, breaking up with a love interest or friend, etc. The first time I used this technique was after a real estate offer fell through. It was the perfect house for us and the only one within our price range. After having our offer outbid, it felt like nothing was going right, especially since I had been unemployed for nearly two years. I had never had a problem finding a job before in my life. At my core, I knew my inability to forgive my past was limiting me from accepting the universal abundance in my present day.

To heal my past, I spent an entire morning releasing everything that entered my mind — from my parent’s bankruptcy when I was a child during the 1970s recession (a hungry, cold and dark period) to being bullied in middle school, as well as many other events that I had long forgotten about. Then I moved onto more recent events, such as failing to keep my graphic design business afloat and having to declare bankruptcy due to the financial meltdown of 2008. (It was a lesson in forgiving others and myself.) After I finished the meditation, I felt peaceful, but I wasn’t sure what would come of it.

Well, my life dramatically changed within a few days. The low-ball offer my husband and I had placed on the house, (the one that had been outbid), was now unexpectedly accepted. The next day, I was called to interview for a good-paying position as a creative marketing manager. What made this call so odd was I didn’t apply for the job. The employer had found me online (and I got the job).  My daughter commented at dinner, “It’s like the universe is punking us.” Yes, but in a good way.

It was an amazing transformation that resulted from me asking for healing and being willing to release and forgive my past. With the removal of each blockage, I had more room to accept the abundance, happiness and health the universe had to offer.

To practice this meditation technique, find a comfortable place, such as your bed. Let your mind go blank and wait for the first negative memory to arrive. When it does, acknowledge it, and then give it to the Divine Energy for healing by saying, “I give this to you. Please take it and heal it. Thank you.” After releasing the memory for healing, let your mind go blank again and wait for the next memory to appear. Continue doing this meditation until the memories trickle to a stop. The first time could potentially take hours. I recommend doing this weekly in the beginning, and then as needed after that.

NOTE: Some people have expressed a concern that they felt worse during or after meditation, so I wrote another post , It Might Get Worse, Before It Gets Better, which helps explains this.

Depression — A Dark Cloud on a Sunny Day

I believe that depression is caused by a blocked connection to our Divine Spirit. The spiritual connection can never be severed, but a person can create blocks that reduce their awareness of the Divine Spirit — like black clouds that block the sun. The longer the separation, the harder it is to remember a sunny day, and the depressed person’s world becomes a darker and darker.

Depression is not the only symptom that can be caused by Spirit disconnection. There are others, such as anxiety, possession, addiction, anger, compulsive behavior, etc. that manifest.

Through shamanic healing, some of the blocks can be removed. But it takes more than a few healings to alleviate depression, and people must take responsibly for building their own spiritual connection. I recommend that people learn to shamanic journey or find another method that builds and maintains a strong connection to the Divine Spirit to offer healing for themselves. It’s a life-long endeavor to maintain a spiritual connection and make sure that the black clouds stay in the distance or pass quickly.

The Journey Through Life

I had asked for guidance from the Spirit one day. Although I had asked for advice for myself, the words seemed universal and I wanted to share it with you.

“The question is always the same. Where to begin, when will it end. Life is a journey, the destination is not known or important. Stop the search for results, live in a moment of peace, knowing that all roads eventually lead to the Divine Spirit.

Have fun, don’t determine the results to be important. You are creating a ripple – how deep, how far, will not be known to you in this realm.

Where will you go, how will you live? We’re waiting to see how well you listen to the lessons going through your spirit, non-stop. Will you hear the Spirit or will you succumb to life’s pleasures? Only you can decide.”

I asked, “Do you like the path I have started?” The answer: “Walking, running – it doesn’t matter. You are seeking. The teacher learns as they teach. With the Spirit anything is possible. Don’t limit yourself. The reach can go well beyond yourself. While teaching immerse yourself. Let go of the ego’s embarrassment. We will help you – just let go!”

A Possessed Mind

I have come to realize that more than a spirit can possess a person. We can be possessed by other people’s thoughts. When our spouse’s, best friend’s or even a stranger’s words or actions take us out of our peace of mind – it has possessed us. Their thoughts or opinions have become more important to us than our own, and we no longer control our own thoughts or actions. We think or act according to how another would have us think or act.

How many times have you walked through a store and had someone’s actions take you out of your happy mood? Or walked through a public place and someone’s stare bothered you. You have just allowed someone else to control your mind.

Try for one day to keep your peace of mind. No matter what someone says or does, you will not be altered. Try possessing your own mind. It’s not easy! But by becoming conscious of how we are altered by others, we begin to train ourselves to stay true to our self, and let society’s expectations remain outside ourselves. We start to walk the path toward enlightenment.

What a difference a day makes

I am watching our new cat clean himself on my work desk. Only a few weeks ago, he was homeless, skinny and had an infected cat bite on his back. The first time we saw him, he was sitting in the rain by our front door. He greeted my kids and I as we arrived home just before dark.

Being given a home was a miracle for this cat. It made me think about the aspects of life that seem out of my reach. Aspects that could change instantaneously, tomorrow or next week.

My husband asked me a few weeks ago, “What’s your plan?” My answer of “I don’t have one,” didn’t go over well. But, frankly my plans haven’t been working so well these last few years. It really is time to let the Divine take control. It’s time for an effortless life that is in-sync with the universe, that involves having faith, being present in the moment and living fearlessly.

I look at the cat, who is now sleeping in the sun, and think “What a difference a day makes.”

Laugh, Live, Love

I shamanic journeyed today to try and find direction for my life. I journeyed to the middle realm and was ushered by spirit warriors to a fire pit. The ancestors arrived and we sat around the fire and passed a peace pipe. One of the ancestors began to talk. His first words were, “Laugh, live, love.” I knew the words meant that everything else was not that important. Our job, our car, the house – were all just meaningless details. I begin to think that my occupation doesn’t have to bring in a lot of money as long as I love what I do. “Aha!” I hear. One of the ancestors agrees with my thoughts. I continue with this train of thought. What would I love to do? What can I be proud of?

I consider starting a holistic directory. It’s communication. It will bring people together who are searching for their spiritual path. It seems like a noble path to follow. But, I am concerned that I am following the “realistic” path that this world values. I want to be sure that my thought process is following the divine will for me.

The sky opens and I begin to fly! Up towards the light, passed the clouds, beyond this universe into the light. A hand reaches down and picks me up. I am settled into a bright cloud where I sit and talk with my Creator. Like so often happens, the conversation is erased from my mind. I can see myself sitting there, I know I would have expressed my concern that I follow his will. Now, I remember a bit… he mentions that he also wants to see what I do with this life. That he is often disappointed that we don’t remember that we are sons and daughters of God… which means we have the power of God within us. We walk around limited by our own thoughts. Living disappointing lives and going to jobs we hate. This is not the way it is supposed to be!

I am returned by my Creator’s hand to the middle realm. Where I sit once again with the ancestors. One nods and says, “God is good.” The others nod in agreement. No big ceremony here!

I go on a vision, where I am in a temple with two people sitting up front. I walk up front and sit next to them, but realize that I feel unworthy to sit there. They turn to me and motion for me to go up front and stand in front of a giant Buddha that is glowing with light. When I turn around, the pews are filled with people and Buddha reminds me that we are glorious and worthy, and that includes me.

A power smolders within. I need to find courage to be myself and live the glorious life that I was meant to live. Does it come from me? It certainly doesn’t come from my thoughts or this body. I will have to rely on my spirit – that part of me that has never lost its power to help me remember my glorious self. And live a life that is courageous and successful in terms of having laughed, lived and loved enough. The rest is just details.

Purging – A Necessary Process

Have you ever noticed that the worst things in your life often lead to better circumstances? Our problems and dilemmas act as a purging that brings our negative qualities and bad habits to the surface where they can be seen clearly and dealt with. Allowing them to release. It’s like when metal is melted to purify it. The process is a hot and dramatic change, but in the end, the metal is a much purer and stronger.

I try to remember that a “purging” can be a good thing (as if there is such a thing as good or bad) when I am going through a unpleasant situation. It makes the process a little easier when I keep in mind that the situation is temporary and ultimately for my better good.

“Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all of the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.”  – A Course in Miracles
